Wow… it’s so simple for these so-called religious scholars to disguise their own heart’s desires and present them as eternal truths of God because most of us don’t know enough about our own religion! Thanks for this post, Mariam!

It is one of the sadest things I ever watched and that too in a live TV program.

Thanks Tahera for your comment : )

    ‘Bilkul Durust’

I think it’s because of the process of learning from other religious scholars that you get these distortions. In haste of being overzealous they tend to overrule some of the very basic laws of morality, like full disclosure and unbiased representation of their learning. This type of preaching gets passed on to the point that you get contrasting meanings and are not even aware of it. These scholars need to read the Quran, Hadith and associated historical documents with calmness and understanding rather than with personal ambitions or raging passions.

On the other hand, most people rely on these scholars as they have other commitments and cannot devote such time to fully understand a foreign language. It is easy to blame the people for being deluded and advise them on being self-aware, but given there are so many things to be self-aware about in our country it’s no wonder these people don’t find distortions and rely mostly on religious scholars. There needs to be uncertainty.

Add to that our unconditional acceptance of anything from the Quran, it is no wonder people are scared to approach the matter with questions. It is accepted that the Quran is the word of God amongst Muslims, but it is also advised to understand why rather than just admit it.

Oh well, hopefully this matter gets raised up and the Paracha guy gets questioned about it. Trust him to find an excuse though.

I agree with you Taimur. The fact that most of us rely on these so-called scholars is actually fueling their political desires.

this is why Iqbal said for these bloody Mullas:
Deen e Mujahi Jehaad Fee Sabeel Allah
Deen E Mullah Fasaad Fee Sabeel Allah.
